Inspiration
My inspiration for 91 came from a lot of places. Here are a few places that come to mind as particularly influential.
Brogue is a Roguelike that is easy to learn but with great strategy in addition to being quite beautiful for a text-only game.
Legerdemain is a very creative Roguelike that gave me some inspiration for breaking the RL mold
Arcanum: Of Steamworks and Magick Obscura a PC game by Troika Games where some of the inspiration for 91 came from, such as the stats / dialog systems
Ultramodern Firearms by Charles Ryan, because I know nothing about guns so this book has been very helpful.
Squaresoft for making the SNES RPGs that got me hooked on this stuff.
Braid (developed by Jonathan Blow) taught me a lot about what an indie game should hope to accomplish.
EarthBound the ultimate modern-day RPG
